This blog is called Eating Stamford Hill. Since I have no plans of munching my way through various geological strata, it would be better entitled “Eating Out In Stamford Hill”, but that proved too long so it was abbreviated as best I could. Furthermore, it should also be noted that I have neither intention nor desire, consciously at least, to start eating any of its residents.
No, this blog is about eating and it’s about Stamford Hill. Where possible, it’s about both.
So where is Stamford Hill? It’s in London, the North East. The hill in question climbs up from Stoke Newington, but “Stamford Hill”, well, that’s also the bit the sprawls around the top. There may well be formal boundaries, or estate agent descriptions, but for the purposes of this blog, I’m defining Stamford Hill as anywhere that’s a reasonably short walk from my front door.
There are no destination restaurants in Stamford Hill. Indeed, Stamford Hill really isn’t a place you’d visit in order to eat. Best stick to Stoke Newington, Dalston, Green Lanes, Seven Sisters even. This makes my job all the easier. Over the forthcoming months, I intend to write the most definitive guide available to eating out in Stamford Hill. There’s more here than you think (that is, if you know the area) but there’s still much less than you’d like.
Off the top of my head, I can think of local establishments serving the following cuisines:
Albanian, American, Brazilian, Caribbean, Chinese, Colombian, English, Indian, Irish, Italian, Japanese, Jewish, Polish, Somalian, Thai, Turkish, Vietnamese.
Incredible! You might think. I never knew there was so much on offer in Stamford Hill! Exactly. Although it’s quite possible I’ve imagined some of these. I welcome suggestions.
